Airfield show offering Black Country people a taste of the high life

BLACK Country people are in with a chance to take to the skies at an action-packed family airfield event.

High-flyers at Halfpenny Green Airport are getting set for their latest Rotors, Wings and Wheels show with a challenge for visitors to take the controls of a helicopter.

The rare chance to fly a chopper will be on offer at the show and a prize will be awarded to the novice who impresses their instructor the most.

Rotors, Wings and Wheels will be open from 10am to 4pm on Sunday September 16, and is an extra date in the airfield's calendar after their Easter open event was badly affected by wet and windy weather.

Organiser Vaughan Meers said: "It's a chance for people to get close to airplanes and take a flight if they want to.

"People are normally kept miles away from the aircraft but the whole thing is to create a fun experience where people can check out the airfield and see what we get up to."

Helicopter flights are just one of the attractions at the show, which will also include a display of RAF aircraft, aircraft cockpits for people to try out for themselves, a show of militaryand vintage vehicles, steam traction engines, large scale model aircraft, 1940s entertainment and military re-enactments.

Air cadets based at Halfpenny Green, at Bobbington near Kinver, will be hosting a barbecue and the event will also feature and aerojumble market selling items for flying enthusiasts.
