Unseen old snaps of Brierley Hill feature in new history book

PREVIOUSLY unseen old photographs of Brierley Hill feature in a new book about the town’s history and the decline of its traditional industries.
Brierley Hill At Work by Black Country author Ned Williams and The Mount Pleasant Local History Group comprises more than 200 images - many previously unpublished - plus personal recollections from people who lived and worked in the area.
Launched at Brierley Hill Methodist Church on September 7, the paperback book brings to life the past world of work in Brierley Hill which was famous for its sausages (from the old Marsh & Baxter factory) and steelworks (The Round Oak).
With help from The Mount Pleasant Local History Group - Wolverhampton based author and historian Ned Williams, a past president of the Black Country Society, compiled the publication to demonstrate the community spirit and industrial backbone of the Black Country town.
Essex-born Mr Williams, a part-time adult education lecturer who lived in Dudley for 12 years until 1974, has written several previous books about his adopted home - the Black Country, many of which are part of the Britain in Old Photographs series.
