A Brierley Hill couple have been banned from keeping animals for tenyears for causing unnecessary suffering to a young pony, which they kept in their garden shed.

Appearing in Dudley Magistrates Court on September 5, Lisa Marie Badger, aged 31 and Wayne Stuart Badger, aged 28, both of Fens Crescent, were both also handed a 12- month community order and ordered to pay £550.25 each to the RSPCA for failing to address the suffering dark bay cob’s poor condition between January 11 and February 22 this year.

The pony, called Diddy, was discovered to be thin and infested with lice.

The couple, who purchased the pony for their two children, were also both handed a 12-month community order for failing to provide adequate grazing facilities for him between June 1 2011 and February 22 2012.

The two-year-old pony was found by RSPCA inspectors on February 20 in the litter-strewn garden at the couple’s former home in Nelson Road, Dudley, where it was locked in the shed which had no windows and was being fed potato peelings.

After the couple were issued with an immediate notice to relocate the pony to a suitable field with a shelter, the inspector returned two days later to find the pony in the same condition.

The cob was seized and has since been rehomed with an experienced horse owner.

Why do I bother to insure my vehicles when people only get a £110 fine for driving without insurance?
