Mischievous lemur causes communications chaos at Dudley Zoo

Dudley Zoo trainee keeper Shaun Crompton retrieves his mobile phone from mischievous black and white ruffed lemur, Splitz.
A MISCHIEVOUS black and white ruffed lemur at Dudley Zoo , created communications chaos for one of its keepers, after running off with his phone.
Trainee keeper, Shaun Crompton, was carrying out his daily duties in Lemur Wood when Splitz crept up behind him, reached into his fleece pocket and pinched his mobile phone, before darting off down the path into the undergrowth.
Shaun said: “My pocket zip is broken, so Splitz was able to reach in and grab it and before I could stop him he had already run off with it in his hand.
“He climbed quite high up into a tree and was beginning to chew the phone, so I had to get Team Leader Pat Stevens to ring it.
“The phone vibrated in his hand when it rang out and, thankfully, he dropped it, but it landed in thick nettles, so I’m now covered in nettle rash after retrieving it.
“The good news is that it’s still working after half-an-hour with Splitz, but I think I need to mend my pocket, so he can’t get his hands on it again!”
