A BRIERLEY Hill shop assistant complained that her love for Ferrero Rocher chocolates led to derogatory suggestions on Facebook that she had a big bottom.

Angela Connolly told Birmingham Employment Tribunal that she felt she was unfairly dismissed by B & M Retail Ltd of Brierley Hill.

She told the tribunal she was victimised by certain work colleagues, despite being “a very friendly person” who was “always pleasant with customers”.

The respondents, who have stores throughout the UK, opposed Mrs Connolly’s claims and denied her allegations of victimisation.

Mrs Connolly, who lives near the store in Dudley Road, said one dispute involved the sale of nail varnish, which was reduced from £3.99 to £2 a bottle.

She said she was “screamed at” by a colleague for wanting to buy the nail varnish at the reduced price.

Mrs Connolly also clashed with a colleague for wanting to buy her favourite Ferrero Rocher chocolates, at a marked down price.

She was later told that references had been made about the chocolates on Facebook, along with derogatory suggestions about her bottom.

The tribunal also heard there had been a mix up over shift work and that Mrs Connolly had complained about not been asked if she wanted to take advantage of the store’s special offers on products.

The respondents described Mrs Connolly as a “forceful character” and alleged she had been angry after an investigation into the potential breach of the restricted age sales procedure.

Store manager Andrew Hackett said in his statement he had dismissed Mrs Connolly following a breakdown of trust and confidence.

Tribunal judge George Alliott is to make a decision at a later date.
