BRIERLEY Hill's feature flats situated on the Chapel Street estate celebrate their 50th anniversary this year and the community is planning to mark the occasion with a series of events and projects.
The flats were originally constructed as part of the local authority's efforts to rid the area of slum housing.
Since then, the flats have become an iconic sight in Brierley Hill and remain one of the largest estates in Dudley borough with more than 700 tenants, some of which have lived there ever since they were built.
Now the Chapel Street Tenants and Residents Association plans to join forces with Brierley Hill Civic Society, churches and councillors to create a number of projects celebrating the history of the flats and people who live there.
Ward councillor Rachel Harris said: "We would love to hear from people who have lived in the flats and have any photographs or stories to tell about the area.
"We are also looking for people and any local businesses who may be interested in joining us to help organise or sponsor events on the estate and beyond during late summer and early autumn."
Anyone interested can contact cllr Harris on 01902 490139 or email cllr.rachel.harris@dudleymbc.org.uk, or people can get in touch with the Chapel Street TRA and register an interest in this year's activities at www.facebook.com/ChapelStreetEstateTRA
