PEOPLE can find details of all events happening as part of this year's Black Country Festival with a new free mobile app launched this week.
Freecom Internet Services Ltd, based at the Waterfront in Brierley Hill, created the app which people can download on their smart phones to keep up to speed with events and the latest news regarding the festival which will be running throughout July.
Mike Geer, managing director of Freecom, offered to create the app free of charge for the festival after the success of last year's inaugural celebration.
He said: "We’re really pleased with how it’s turned out and hope thousands of local people will download it for free and get involved with the festival."
Mayor of Dudley, councillor Steve Waltho, officially launched the new app yesterday (Thursday) and also took a tour around the HQ of Freecom which has been supplying online services for nearly 20 years and whose customers include West Bromwich Albion Football Club, retail businesses, schools and celebrities.
Cllr Waltho said: "The staff at Freecom have been great and it’s a tremendous gesture that they have created the app free of charge for the community.”
Steve Edwards, chairman of the Black Country Festival Community Group, said: “The app gives everyone easy access to the festival via their mobile phones. We’re really grateful to Freecom for all their work and we’re confident loads of people across the Black Country will be downloading the app.”
The app also has a shop where people can buy Black Country flags and other merchandise and it links to the festival's official Twitter and Facebook pages and boasts a gallery of pictures and videos from last year’s festival.
This year's Black Country Festival, supported by Dudley Council, will see an array of events taking place across the borough including a Black Country Beer Day, a Black Country 10K run and a variety of sports events.
The official Black Country Day takes place on July 14.
