REGULARS who attend Age UK Dudley's Springboard Activity Centre in Brierley Hill have been able to resume playing table tennis after a local metal company came to their rescue.

The organisation which caters for the over 50s in Dudley borough were left in limbo when their table tennis table was broken back in February.

Players were forced to put their service on hold until a new one-metre metal strut arrived to hold part of the table together.

But despite repeated promises from the manufacturers, the metal strut had still failed to materialise four months later.

At that point, Age UK turned to ASD metal services in Peartree Lane who soon solved the situation by creating a new part which enabled play to resume.

Age UK project assistant Sandy Jones said: "ASD have made many of our older people very happy and deserve every success for that.

"Some of the regulars were really disappointed at not being able to play, but now that the table is repaired it has enabled many of our older people to resume their fitness sessions - and yet when offered the company wouldn't take any payment for their kindness."

Funded by the Big Lottery, the centre offers a social environment to everyone in Dudley borough who is over 50.

It provides a whole host of activities ranging from Tai Chi, Zumba and line dancing to drama, choir, knitting and crafts.

There's also less strenuous events to take part in ranging from family history, book clubs and art classes.
