BRIERLEY Hill woman Emily Rathbone has raised £230 for Macmillan Cancer Support after staging her first coffee morning for the charity.

Emily, aged 27, hosted the event at Church in The Community in Turners Lane, last Friday (September 18) to help pull in the pounds for the charity in memory of her granddad who died a few years ago from prostate cancer.

She said: "To watch such a strong man turn into nothing but a shell was heart breaking."

As well as selling coffee and cakes in return for donations to Macmillan, Emily also held competitions and a raffle featuring a host of prizes donated by Black Country businesses.

She said she also has a close friend who has been diagnosed as terminally ill, who may need the help of the charity, so she wanted to do all she could to help.
