BRIERLEY Hill father and daughter Adrian and Leah Pargeter have raised more than £3,000 for two causes close to their hearts when they scaled Africa's highest peak.

Adrian, aged 46, a manager for a leading insulation manufacturer, and digital marketer Leah, aged 23, spent six days climbing to the summit of the highest free standing mountain in the world - Mount Kilimanjaro - which stands at 5,895m.

The pair, from Borrowdale Close, took on the mountainous challenge to raise funds for Mary Stevens Hospice in Stourbridge and Happy Hours, a social club for people with learning disabilities, where Leah has volunteered every week for the past five years.

She said of the adventure: "The climb itself was an incredible experience.

"We walked for around six to seven hours per day and then faced an 18-hour summit attempt."

The dynamic dad and daughter duo, who have now raised £3,388 in sponsorship for their chosen charities following the trip, also made history by taking the Black Country flag to new heights.

Leah said: "We are very proud to say we made it to the top representing the Black Country."

After the climb, Leah even stayed on in Tanzania to do two weeks of voluntary work in a day care centre in Moshi for some of area's poorest children - an experience which she says she "loved every minute of".

Adrian and Leah have now raised £3,388 in sponsorship.
