CARERS for the under fives are invited to learn basic first aid skills that could help save a child's life.

Busy Bees Early Years Training Academy has teamed up with Ronald McDonald House Birmingham to call for more people who regularly care for under-fives, including parents, grandparents and childcare professionals, to become skilled and confident in the basics of paediatric first aid.

As part of the Child Safety First campaign, a free paediatric first aid workshop will be held at Merry Hill Shopping Centre at its Mummy Mornings event tomorrow (Tuesday June 7) between 11am and 1pm in the Eat Central food court.

The session is open to anyone that regularly cares for young children under five looking to gain important knowledge of first aid.

Those attending will have access to an experienced first aid trainer and will receive a free first aid starter kit and handy booklet including guidance and tips.

Fay Gibbin, training manager at Busy Bees Early Years Training Academy, said: “We’re incredibly proud to launch this campaign. Nothing is more precious to a parent than their child’s safety, and nothing is more important to us than the safety of the children that we care for in our nurseries.

“We hope by raising awareness of the importance of Paediatric First Aid training throughout the campaign potentially thousands of additional adults in the region will be equipped, knowledgeable and confident in delivering the right treatment quickly and efficiently should the situation ever arise.”

Libby Aston, house manager at Ronald McDonald House in Birmingham, said: “Paediatric first aid training is an invaluable skill for families with young children so it’s really exciting to be partnering with Busy Bees Training Academy for this campaign.

“We really hope parents, grandparents and carers will find the sessions useful.”

The campaign, which coincides with Child Safety Week (June 6 to 12), also precedes new legislation due to come into effect in September 2016, requiring all new recruits who hold a level 2 or level 3 qualification in childcare to present an emergency paediatric first aid or full paediatric first aid certificate if they are to count towards the staff/qualification ratios under the Early Years Foundation Stage.

As part of the campaign, an A5 booklet containing important information on paediatric first aid training can be downloaded from www.busybeestraining.co.uk
