A BRIERLEY Hill timber yard is remaining open for business after a section was engulfed by fire on Saturday afternoon (July 2).

West Midlands Fire Service crews were alerted to family run company Woodstock Timber Supplies, based in Old Bush Street, at about 3.16pm.

Four appliances and 16 firefighters from Brierley Hill, Dudley and Haden Cross fire stations were dispatched to the scene, and were able to get the fire under control using a main water jet and two hose reel jets, before it could cause widespread damage.

The cause of the fire, which spread to adjoining units, has been classed as accidental and is not believed to have been started deliberately.

Company owner David Oakley said the firm is still open for business and the fire was “not actually that bad”.

He said: We’ve had lots of people call us up today to see if we were still open, so we’d like to tell everyone that we are still trading as normal.

“The pictures make it look a lot worse than it was. It only affected a very small section at the bottom of the yard.

“It was not actually that bad and could have been a lot worse. I'm just grateful to the firefighters who got out so quickly.”

While the fire was being extinguished on Saturday, West Midlands Fire Service tweeted: “Good progress being made at the fire in Brierley Hill.

“Assertive firefighting has brought this incident under control.”

Woodstock Timber Supplies has been supplying the Midlands with timber and decking for over 20 years.
