DUDLEY mayor Cllr Alan Finch got some retail therapy to check out how shoppers can support a good cause.

Cllr Finch paid a visit to Asda, High Street, Dudley, to help pack bags to raise cash for one of his chosen charities - White House Cancer Support.

The visit, on July 12, helped swell the coffers at the Ednam Road-based charity which provides emotional support, practical help and information for people with cancer and their carers in Dudley borough.

White House director. Paul Bartley, said: "The customers were a bit nervous at first about having their bags packed by the mayor but once one went through it was really good.

"The mayor thoroughly enjoyed it and it is great having his support for a local Dudley charity."

Another Dudley store, Nisa on Nith Place, has also been helping the White House after the charity was chosen for mayoral support.

After reading the White House was a mayor's charity, shop assistant Sue Randle, a life-long friend of Cllr Finch, organised a collection in the shop and shop owners Sam and Dal Rai added donation to take the total to £500.

White House manager Chris Barron said: ‘We are very grateful for support of the Nisa store, it’s great that they have chosen to help us following the decision of the Mayor to select us.
