BOROUGH residents are being urged to put their best foot forward and take part in one of the region's top walking events.

The annual Dudley Borough Trail takes place on Sunday May 3 and usually attracts more than 2,000 walking enthusiasts.

This year's event promises to be bigger and better than ever with walks of six, nine, 12, 18 and 26 miles on offer.

Walkers will be able to take in the hidden beauty and industrial heritage of the borough by travelling along canal towpaths, disused railway lines and country footpaths.

All walks will start at Dudley Leisure Centre at designated times between 8am up until midday.

Checkpoints will be in place along all five routes to ensure the well-being of walkers.

It costs £3 to take part in the 26 and 18-mile routes, £2.50 for the 12 and nine-mile events and £1.50 for the six-mile walk.

The event forms part of the Let's Get Walking festival which runs from Saturday April 18 until Sunday May 3.

The festival features a series of walks across the borough with details available in the Let's Get Active Outdoors activity programme.

Entry forms for the Borough Trail are available online at www.dudley.gov/dudleytrail or from Dudley Council's leisure centre and libraries or by calling Himley Hall on 01384 817817.
