DUDLEY’S Stone Street Square is set to host the flagship event of the Black Country Festival.

People are being encouraged to visit the entertainment square in the self-proclaimed capital of the Black Country, between 11am and 6pm on Saturday, July 11.

A varied day of family fun will be on offer, including live music, comedy, street entertainers, wrestling and Black Country themed arts and crafts stalls.

Councillor Pete Lowe, leader of Dudley Council, said: “The Stone Street Square celebrations were huge last year and we’re hoping that this year will be even more successful.

“As the self proclaimed capital of the Black Country, we are encouraging the local community to come out and celebrate all that is great about the place where we live and work.”

Tens of thousands of people enjoyed the first ever Black Country Festival throughout the borough last year after local residents and Dudley Council worked to put on entertainment to mark official Black Country Day on July 14.

Steve Edwards, chairman of the Black Country Festival organising committee, said: “This year’s festival has already grown tenfold from last year and it’s great to see so many people getting involved.

“Dudley is the capital of the Black Country so we’re hoping that the Stone Street celebrations will be some of the biggest of the month.”
