THERE'LL be no further protest against plans for a new mosque in Dudley this weekend, as hinted by a far right group, the town's top cop has confirmed.

After descending on Dudley in June to voice objections to Dudley Central Mosque's plan to build a new place of worship in Hall Street - AFFFMAI (All Football Firms/Fans March Against Islamisation) vowed to return to the town this weekend to protest further.

But Chief Inspector Phil Dolby said all indications show the follow up demonstration idea has been now dropped by the group which has since changed its name to United Against Islamisation.

He told the News: "They've said they're not coming and there's no counter protest either. We've told local community leaders. We'll put a little bit of extra police on the day just to make sure everything's ok.

"But we're anticipating no issues; there's no information there will be - which we're very happy with."

A spokesman for West Midlands Police added: "Although the march planned for September 12 has been cancelled, as one of the largest police forces in the UK, West Midlands Police remains in a constant state of readiness and is able to respond to any scale event or incident whether planned or spontaneous."
