STOURBRIDGE funeral directors H Porter & Sons have reported a huge upsurge in support since becoming an official drop-off point for the Black Country Foodbank.

The South Road based firm has been collecting items for the charity since the summer.

Proprietor Lucy Porter said: "It was just a case of getting the word out there that we are a collection point.

"The first month we started, we probably only collected a couple of cans of baked beans.

"Since then, support has grown to such an extent, that last month we crammed full three car loads of items to take to the Foodbank.

"We're in quite a good spot for people to stop and drop off donations. We've been surprised just how kind-hearted Stourbridge folk can be."

The family run funeral firm has also supported the Foodbank financially through their John Porter Community Fund which was created to help Stourbridge people and good causes.

They were also the first corporate sponsor of the Mary Stevens Hospice Glass Giving Tree.

Donations for the Foodbank can be made to Porter's South Road office from 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday.
