ENTHUSIASTIC Dudley volunteers are being urged to join the borough’s St John Ambulance to help provide first aid cover at events in and around the Black Country.

Volunteers, who will need to attend meetings regularly at the charity’s newly reopened unit in Vicar Street, deal with everything from minor cuts and bruises, to life or death emergencies The first aid charity provide services at hundreds of events each year, including match day cover at Wolverhampton Wanderers and West Bromwich Albion, and concerts and events at Dudley Town Hall and Brierley Hill Civic Hall.

Volunteers can also put themselves forward for big events like V Festival and Birmingham Pride, as well as smaller community events and school fetes.

St John Ambulance trains its volunteers so they are able to give first aid wherever it’s needed, as soon as possible.

As well as event first aiders, the new unit is also looking to appoint volunteers into specialist roles heading up its events, training and logistics teams.

Jack Lewis, St John Ambulance district manager, said: “We have a busy and exciting events programme lined up for 2016 and more opportunities than ever for volunteers to come and be part of what we do – keeping our community safer and providing first aid wherever and whenever its needed.

“If you are aged over 18, are enthusiastic and willing to learn, we want to hear from you. As well as gaining new skills and experiences, you can make friends and make a real difference to your local community.

“If going out on events doesn’t seem like your cup of tea, we also have vacancies for youth leaders to teach and inspire Dudley’s young people. Our badgers, aged seven to 10, and cadets, aged 10 to 17, meet on a Monday evening, where they learn first aid as well as other life skills.”
