THE Mayor of Dudley was among dignitaries paying tribute to the borough’s fallen war heroes at Dudley’s Armistice Day service today (Friday November 11).

Veterans joined council staff, councillors and members of the public at the Clock Tower in Priory Street for the annual service commemorating the end of the First World War.

The service, which saw Priory Street closed until 1pm, was held at 10.45am and included the laying of wreaths and a two-minute silence.

Veterans, councillors, dignitaries and members of the public will turn out again this Sunday (November 13) for Dudley’s annual Remembrance Day service at the cenotaph in Ednam Road at 10.40am.

Ex-service men and women, plus community groups, will parade from Vicar Street at 10.30am, along High Street, Stone Street, Priory Street, Priory Road and into Ednam Road.

Uniformed organisations will meet in Vicar Street from 10am.

Several road closures will be in place to make sure the event runs safely including Priory Road, Ednam Road, New Street, Tower Street, Priory Street, Stone Street, St James’s Road, Parsons Street, Market Place, High Street, Wolverhampton Street, Union Street and Vicar Street.

People can pay their respects by placing a poppy in the special cross of remembrance at the Clock Tower in Priory Street.

The cross is available at all times of the day or night for people to pay personal tributes to people who lost their lives.
