THERE'S just a few weeks to go until this year's Action Heart five-mile road run around the streets of Dudley.

Borough runners are urged to sign up for the 5 Heart Run, which starts and finishes at Russells Hall Hospital and which is now in its 27th year.

The popular event, which will be held on Sunday March 5, raises thousands of pounds for Dudley's Action Heart - the borough's heart charity based at Russells Hall.

Open to people of all abilities from joggers to elite club runners - the event is set to get underway at 9.30am.

Joy Brown, fundraising executive of Action Heart, said: “Entries are coming in nicely and we are pleased to report that the run continues to be a favourite amongst many road runners.

"Over the years the event has raised hundreds of thousands of pounds for Action Heart and its work here in Dudley and the surrounding areas.

"A few years ago we also added a walkers' category which is proving quite popular."

The separate five-mile walk, will get underway at the earlier time of 9am.

The Mayor and Mayoress of Dudley - Councillor Mohammed Hanif and his wife Zabeda Khanam - will officially start the run and greet the finishers over the line.

Anyone raising £100 in sponsorship will get a free pair of Adidas trainers - runners raising £75 will receive an Adidas zip hoodie.

The entry fee is £12 for running club affiliated runners and £14 for unattached entrants.

Runners can enter online via website www.actionheartrunning.com or by calling the Action Heart office for an entry form - 01384 292233.
