It's a girl!

Amba waves hello! Amba waves hello!

DUDLEY Zoo has welcomed the pitter patter of tiny feet following the birth of a little red panda.

Keepers have discovered the youngster is a girl and have named her Amba – a Nepalese name, from the region where red pandas originate.

Amba is three months old and has been hiding away in the nesting box with mum, Yasmin, since her birth, but ventured out for the first time this week, where keepers were able to catch her and have a quick peek.

The newest addition is the first daughter of Yasmin and dad Yang and the second red panda to be born at the Castle Hill site.

The first was big brother Yogi, who was born in Spring last year and was the first in the zoo’s history.

He has since been transferred to Eindhoven in the Netherlands as part of an international breeding programme.
