MP Ian Austin says traffic bosses are moving in the right direction after announcing plans to tackle a dodgy bend in Gornal.

The Dudley North MP, along with councillors Stuart Turner and Dave Branwood and Labour candidate Serena Craigie, has been campaigning for changes after a number of accidents and near misses where Church Street and Temple Street meet in Upper Gornal.

The campaign, which included a 500-signature petition, began after residents reported cars were hitting the old stone wall outside St Peter and the English Martyrs Church as often as once a week.

Ian Austin MP said: “Anyone who travels down the Church Street from Five Ways to Gornal Village will know that the bend by the Catholic church is really dangerous, especially for people who aren’t local and don’t know the road.

“Thanks to local residents and campaigners Dudley Council has listened to concerns and I’m pleased we are now seeing plans for significant improvements along the bend to make it safer for everyone.”

If Dudley Council approves the plans new warning signs, road markings and extended kerbs along the bend will be put in place.
