A KINGSWINFORD couple have combined their talents to form a quirky new business.

Claire and Gareth Evans, recently launched Voodoo Street, an online clothing and accessory shop.

Mrs Evans, a freelance writer, who released her first book, Diary of a Sleep Deprived Mum, in 2011, is now using her skills to write an accompanying blog and product descriptions, while her husband, a graphic designer, comes up with the original product designs.

She said: "Gareth always designed logos from a young age and when he was into skateboarding, people would see his doodles and tell him that he could get t-shirts of them.

"Up until now he has been working on other people’s projects but we both wanted to do something more fun."

They took the plunge and admit while they have "learned a lot of lessons" along the way they have been "overwhelmed with the response".

Mrs Evans continued: "This has been a year in the making. We have carried out our own extensive market research, produced our own website, marketing, social networking, designs and sourced our own suppliers and printers.

"The designs are our own and have some kind of meaning for us. We are not just jumping on the latest fashion bandwagon.

"Before we properly launched we shipped to Ireland, USA and Australia and now have a growing fan base and Facebook following."

The couple hope to be able to sponsor local talent from Stourbridge's Unit3sixty when the planned state-of-the-art skate park gets off the ground and aspire to open a real shop.
