AT THE July meeting, Mark Clifford from the Avoncroft Museum spoke on The Development Of A Nailer’s Cottage. Mark told the story of a Nailer’s Cottage on Old Birmingham Road built in 1840, and lived in until abandoning it in 2008, and more recently rebuilt at the museum.
The August meeting heard John Billingham speak on The Edwardian Age, in particular the life of Edward VII, the society social life and the big changes that took place in this period. The decline in domestic servants after the war, the Peoples Budget of 1909, when pensions were introduced and national insurance in 1912, votes for women and the first motor car and the aeroplane.
The next meeting of the society is on Monday, September 1, when Ned Williams will be Looking At Shops – the development of shopping over the years. Meetings are held in the Community Centre, High Street, Kingswinford at 7.30pm. For more info ring Ron on 01384 295848.
