At the July meeting Mark Clifford from the Avoncroft Museum spoke on The Development of a Nailer’s Cottage. Mark told the story of a Nailer’s Cottage on Old Birmingham Road built in 1840, and lived in until abandoned in 2008, and more recently rebuilt at the Museum. He spoke of the work of a nail maker and the families who had lived there.

The August meeting heard John Billingham speak on The Edwardian Age, in particular the life of Edward VII, the Society social life and the big changes that took place in this period. The decline in domestic servants after the war, the Peoples Budget of 1909, when national insurance and pensions were introduced in 1912, votes for women and the first motor car and the aeroplane.

The next meeting of the Society is on September 1, when Ned Williams will be Looking at Shops – the development of shopping over the years.
