A LEADING Simon Cowell lookalike brought the X-mas Factor to the launch of the borough's annual festive toy appeal.

Andy Monk, who bears an uncanny resemblance to the TV talent show judge, stopped off at Kingswinford hair salon Blaze Hairdressers to help kick-start the Operation Santa Toy Appeal which aims to bring cheer to underprivileged Dudley youngsters.

The lookalike, who appeared in the famous Red Nose Day sketch where Simon Cowell ‘married’ himself, was inspired to support this year's appeal after hearing how salon owner Brett Harris donated more than 2,000 toys, games, books and selection boxes to give a boost to needy kids last year.

Andy, who stopped off at the Lapwood Avenue salon on Thursday November 6 with more than 50 individually wrapped gifts for the appeal, said: "Brett has been a fantastic supporter of the Dudley CVS Operation Santa appeal for several years and each year he surpasses himself with both the number and quality of the toys and games he collects and donates and which make a huge difference to thousands of under-privileged kids in Dudley borough.

“Brett and Dudley CVS get my vote, they certainly have got the X-mas Factor.”

The Operation Santa appeal, organised by Dudley Council for Voluntary Service, has been going strong for more than 20 years and last year a record-breaking 5,430 children were treated to a gift at Christmas donated by big-hearted businesses, council staff, voluntary groups, charities and individuals across the borough.

People can donate new or unused toys, games, books, stationery, gift wrapping paper, clothes for children up to 16 by calling Dudley CVS on 01384 573381.

Suitably-wrapped presents can also be dropped off at Geoff Hill Electrical Superstore, Amblecote, as owner Geoff Hill has long supported the appeal and this year donated £500 to the cause.
