FANTASTICAL glass is the topic of a new exhibition which has gone on display at a Kingswinford museum.

The free exhibition, entitled Products of the Imagination: Fantasy in Glass, runs at Broadfield House Glass Museum until April 26 and features an eclectic collection of West Midlands made glass.

Objects on display, from dragons to ancient Egyptian gods, have been gathered from collections which demonstrate the imagination of glassmakers spanning the Victorian era to the present.

Dudley Councillor Hilary Bills, cabinet member for environment and culture, said: “This exhibition brings together some of the more dramatic and inventive pieces of our collection and shows how beauty can still be imagined in even the most industrial of settings.”

Pieces on display include a 1970s Orrefors bowl decorated with wood nymphs, a 1930s Jack Lloyd ruby plate from Tudor Crystal and a Czech pressed glass tray, also from the 1930s, with mermaid design.

The exhibition also includes the museum’s latest acquisition, a Persian style cameo vase by Thomas Webb.

The Compton Drive museum is open daily, except Mondays, from noon to 4pm.
