Kingswinford and District Historical Society The monthly meeting on March heard Tim Booth speak about Windmills in the Black Country.

They were first introduced into the area in the 12th Century and Tim showed paintings and pictures of windmills in Smethwick, Cosely and Tettenhall.

Wall Heath, Enville and Gornal still have the remains of windmills.

In the early years the local miller was in demand, taking his cost of milling in flour.

The industrial revolution in the 18th Century saw mills changing to Forge Mills.

The society’s usual meetings on the first Monday in the month are interrupted in April and May because of the Bank Holidays.

The next meeting at the Community Centre, High Street, Kingswinford will be on Monday, April 20 at 7.30 pm.

The speaker will be Roy Peacock and his subject ‘James Foster’, the Stourbridge Ironmaster.

New members and visitors are especially welcome.
