The society meets at the Community Centre, High Street, Kingswinford. The speaker at our May meeting was Roy Peacock who told us about James Foster, the Stourbridge Ironmaster.
He was a partner in John Bradley and Co and formed the Foster,Restrick Co. that became famous for building “The Agenoria” the steam locomotive that ran on the Kingswinford Railway, not far from where we were that evening, and also the “Stourbridge Lion” the first steam locomotive to run in the USA. He became an MP in 1830, although he never spoke in the House of Commons.
He was known as a good employer and was responsible for building Stourbridge Town hall and Amblecote Church. The next meeting is on Monday June 1 when Max Keen, suitable attired, will tell us about “The Battle of Agincourt”.
All are welcome, further details from Ron Julian 01384 295848.
