BLAKELANDS Country House in Halfpenny Green near Stourbridge will be staging a special tea party tomorrow (Thursday June 4) for brave Kingswinford teenager Elle-Mae Davidson who was struck down by a massive brain haemorrhage when just 16-years-old.

Academically-minded Elle had her sights set on studying at Oxbridge where she wanted to read Russian and maths before she suffered the haemorrhage in January 2013.

She endured several major brain operations and at one stage was given no chance of survival.

But after spending five weeks in critical care, seven months in high dependency and the next 16 months in a children's rehabilitation centre in Surrey, Elle is now back at home living with her family and friends who have been dubbed Elle's Angels as they fundraise on her behalf.

Her mum Leah Davidson said: “We are very grateful to still have her and extremely grateful for everyone’s support.”

Thursday's tea party will be an attempt to help raise cash for Elle's forthcoming trip to a dolphin rehabilitation centre in America.

Promise Dreams, a national children's charity which aims to make dreams come true for seriously and terminally ill children and their families, is supporting Elle and has donated £2,000 towards the trip to Island Dolphin Care in Key Largo, Florida Keys, at the end of June.

On hearing about Elle and the family’s wish to take her to America – Paul Morgan, owner of Blakelands, offered to host one of the venue’s popular afternoon teas free of charge to help raise funds for the trip.

He said: “We heard about Elle’s story through the charity Promise Dreams, who we’ve had a relationship with for a number of years. They are passionate about raising money for seriously ill children and when they told us about Elle, we were more than happy to help.”

Lisa Needham, from Promise Dreams, said: "It is so lovely of Blakelands to host this very special afternoon tea party.

"The Davidsons are such an inspirational family and are always so overwhelmed by the generosity of everyone who has supported Elle since she was first taken ill.”

Elle’s family are also planning another fundraising event - a ball at the Park Hall Hotel in Wolverhampton.

Tickets, which include a three-course meal, live music and bacon sandwiches at midnight, cost £45 and can be obtained by calling 07967 123430.
