A MEMORIAL golf day held in honour of a much-loved former Enville Golf Club member raised almost £5,000 for charity.

Friends of Kingswinford man Gary Gray, who passed away in February this year at the age of 55, held the event on Friday (June 26) in a bid to raise money for Pancreatic Cancer Research.

The day – called ’50 Pints for Gray’ – was also supported by fellow golf club members, who raised the money for the chosen charity of Gary’s wife Jill and his two daughters, Lisa and Emily.

A tee off at 11am from Jill started the event and following the round, a hot buffet was held at the Park Tavern, in Cot Lane, Kingswinford.

Gill Chilton, one of the event organisers, said: “Gary was a member of Enville Golf Club for about 20 years and he was a good friend to us all.

“He was a lovely man; dependable, sociable, reliable; and he really loved his family.

“From the raffle prizes, a small auction and subsidised fees from Enville GC, along with wonderful donations from friends and members, we were able to raise almost £5,000 for the Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund.

“We also managed with help from friends and colleagues to get all 18 holes sponsored to help raise even more money for the fund.

“A great day was had by all and, I think you will agree, a wonderful effort to raise that sort of money.”
