At the June meeting,chairman Enid Fennell welcomed two visitors, Margaret Tew and Margaret Fennell, chairman and treasurer respectively of the committee of the West Midlands Federation of the Townsmen’s guilds. Enid also told us the Dot Pearsall was in Hospital and wished her a speedy recovery.

On a more cheerful note, Brenda Adkin was welcomed back to the fold after her recent ill health ,and Alva Staves was presented with a lovely floral arrangement to mark a significant birthday. Tickets for the Federation Annual Lunch were distributed.

Payment was collected for the canal boat trip in August. It was announced that Tickets for the National Carol service to be held in Birmingham, were all sold and that there was waiting list. However , there will be plenty of room at the Federation Carol Service. The Scrabble Group will meet as usual , as will the ramblers.

The next meeting of the luncheon club will be at The Court House in Kingswinford. The Wednesday Club will not meet in August , but will meet in September for fish, chips and cider and possibly even some art and craft. Doreen and Mavis volunteered to wash up . Joyce Robins was thanked for bringing flowers to enhance the room, which she kindly donated as a raffle prize.

The speaker for the evening was Alan Thornton who rather confusingly spoke about Cadburys of chocolate making fame. The main thrust of the talk was concerned with how Quaker Principles led the Cadbury Family to develop Bourneville Village.

Sue Cotterell thanked Mr Thornton on our behalf. Sylvia Taylor , Sandra Grey and Margaret Fennell won raffle prizes. At the next meeting in the Community Centre on August 10 Fiona Lucas will tell us about “Tea towels from around the world.
