KINGSWINFORD teenager Amira-Mai Davidson helped to secure a record-breaking total for The One Show’s Rickshaw Challenge for Children in Need.

The 17-year-old was one of six young riders who undertook a gruelling 477-mile journey from Land’s End to the East End to help boost funds for the annual BBC appeal.

Amira, whose elder sister Elle-Mae suffered a sudden and devastating brain haemorrhage in 2013, took on the challenge to help give something back to The Children's Trust - a project funded by Children in Need - which has provided steadfast support to the Davidson family since the tragedy.

Elle-Mae was left needing round-the-clock care and after she left hospital Amira spent all of her weekends and holidays at The Children’s Trust, which offers specialist care for young people with brain injuries and which she credits with helping her come to terms with her sister's condition - so she was keen to show her support by taking on the Rickshaw Challenge.

She said: “It was a difficult challenge, but all for such a good cause and I’d do it again in an instant. The friends and memories I’ve made on the road will stay with me for life.”
