KINGSWINFORD students took on a challenge that was out of this world when they held a space to earth challenge day.

Pupils from The Kingswinford School, as well as children from Church of the Ascension, Maidensbridge and St Mary’s primary schools, cycled, ran and jumped 460km to get back to earth.

The triathlon style challenge encouraged schools to create their own ‘spaceathlons’ – a trio of space, sport and science activities after British astronaut Tim Peake challenged children to exercise alongside his daily two hour training session on the highest and fastest gym in the universe.

More than 150 pupils were involved in the challenge, where alongside their sports activities, they also completed a balloon rocket building challenge and got to see an astronauts suit from a previous space mission.

Anna Pinto, director of science, said ‘’Students had a fantastic time and had an insight into the fitness regime that is required from an astronaut.

“Children fired rockets and were engaged in the wonders of space as they learned about spacesuits and spacewalks.”
