RUNNERS across the borough are being urged to pick up their pace and take part in Dudley Kingswinford Running Club’s 10k road race.

Hundreds of athletes are expected to sign up for the annual run, which this year takes place at 7.15pm on Wednesday, May 4, at the Swindon Road-based venue.

Launched 29 years ago by Dick Blackburn, former chairman and founder of the running club, the race will also raise much-needed funds for Action Heart, a Dudley-based charity that provides rehabilitation for heart surgery patients and individuals who have suffered a heart attack.

Kingswinford-based commercial property firm London and Cambridge Properties (LCP), which owns the Pensnett Trading Estate, has also re-signed as the event’s main sponsors.

It is the second consecutive year that LCP has supported the DK10K race, with Andrew Preston, industrial portfolio manager at LCP, saying: “It’s such a popular event locally and is very close to our head office, so we were only too pleased to sponsor it again.”

Gary Bonner, race organiser, added: “We’re really pleased that LCP has decided to support the race again. It takes a lot of time to organise a race of this size, so corporate sponsorship is vital.

“Anyone wishing to take part should sign up for the event now. It is always a great race and we are looking forward to staging it again this year.”
