MCDONALDS has defended its “rigorous standards” after a woman was sold a raw burger at the chain’s Kingswinford branch.

Lucy Whitehouse, of Wordsley, was served the quarter pounder with cheese burger from the Dudley Road fast food store on Good Friday (March 25).

But it quickly became a not-so-good Friday for the 34-year-old when she bit into the cold, uncooked burger.

Lucy posted a picture of the burger on her Facebook and Twitter pages, saying: “It was disgusting I was nearly sick it was like mush.

“I bit into it but spat it out, but if it had been served to a child (it) could of been a lot worse.

"It was literally pink mush on a bap with some cheese thrown on. Absolutely revolting.”

When contacted by the News, a McDonald’s spokesperson said: “Food safety is our highest priority.

“We place great emphasis on quality control and follow rigorous standards in order to avoid any imperfections in our food.”

Lucy, a former pupil of Ellowes High School, said that she immediately took the burger back into the branch and complained to the manager.

She added: “I threw it back to the manager, he was like ‘I'm sorry I'll give you two free meals’.

“No thanks McDonalds… never eating there again.”

The McDonald’s spokesperson responded: “As soon as Ms Whitehouse made us aware of this incident on Friday the restaurant team apologised, investigated fully and offered to replace her meal as well as a free meal for her partner which she accepted.

“We were unaware the customer had any further concerns so would encourage her to return the calls from our customer services team to discuss this further.”

A number of people on social media were quick to make comment on Lucy’s burger, with Len Imelda Mathers calling it “disgusting”, and Paul Henry saying it was “unacceptable”, adding: “It’s put me right off… that’s just awful.

Rachel Sinclair Harrison said the two free meals “no way compensates for a potential food poisoning” adding: “Oh god did they just defrost a burger and fling it on? I've worked in maccies and can't understand how this could of happened.”

Other people were more light-hearted in their responses. Kevin Mohan said: “Two mins in the microwave be perfect”, while on Twitter, HUGEWolf said: “Nothing wrong with that. Looks like a Beef Tartare.”
