AN elderly disabled man is now too scared to leave his home after being mugged in Kingswinford in broad daylight.

Brian Shaw was riding his mobility scooter from Market Street back to his home in Wall Heath at about 2pm on Saturday (April 2) when he was approached by two men.

The pair asked Mr Shaw, who is in his late 70s, for directions, and it was at this time that he felt one of the men reach into his back pocket and take his wallet.

The wallet contained about £250, as well as a Stroke Association card which has Mr Shaw’s name, photo and address on it.

Mr Shaw’s daughter said her father is “really distressed” following the mugging, and wants to warn other elderly people to be aware when out on their own.

She told the News: “My dad is so upset about it and it really shook both him and my mum. He is now too scared to go out on his own in fear of it happening again.

“You don’t expect anything like that to happen, especially as it was in broad daylight at lunchtime on a Saturday with so many people around. All he went out to do was to get a bag of chips.

“One of the worst things is that, apart from the money which was taken, the wallet contained his Stroke Association card and he is scared that the muggers now have his address.

“We need to make sure people, especially those who are elderly and disabled, are aware of these things going on in our towns and to be more alert.”

West Midlands Police are investigation the theft of the wallet from Mr Shaw and are currently reviewing CCTV footage from the local area.

Anyone with any information which could help the investigation have been urged to contact PC Bunford on 101 ext 851 6351.
