CREATIVE teenagers who worked on a series of writing projects at Kingswinford Library are set to take part in a performance that will be streamed live on the internet.

Arts group Blast Theory and acclaimed author Tony White have been working with youngsters across the region to create stories that will be told during the online event on Saturday, October 29, from 3pm to midnight.

The event is called A Place Free of Judgement and the story will unfold over the course of nine hours at three consecutive events when the young people take over libraries in Worcester, Telford and Cannock.

Councillor Rachel Harris, Dudley Council’s cabinet member for health and wellbeing, said: “The young people have been asked to re-imagine libraries as cultural centres and the project demonstrates how we are evolving to inspire visitors and librarians to think differently about the role of libraries in the future.”

The work of the Dudley borough teenagers who worked with Tony at Kingswinford Library will be used as part of the final work at Telford Library.

Tony said: “It has been an incredible privilege to work with really inspiring and creative young people.

“When so many libraries are closing and under threat I’m glad to have seen again first-hand the vital role that libraries and librarians play for young people and to have been reminded of just how important my local library was to me when I was their age.”
