STUDENTS at a Kingswinford school have been commemorating the 100 year anniversary of the Battle of the Somme by coming up with their own poppy creations.

Year 8 pupils at The Crestwood School looked into the history of the First World War during the summer term and decided, as a tribute, that they would design and make their own felt poppies.

Many students have been staying behind after school to design and create their own poppies, not only in felt but also in acrylic.

The acrylic poppies can be seen in a new installation which is situated outside the front of the Bromley Lane school.

Both the felt and acrylic poppies made by the students have been sold throughout the school with the demand so great that supplies are constantly on order.

The creations have so far raised more than £200 for the Royal British Legion – with the school hoping to raise more than £300 for the cause when the poppy funds are added to its usual collection.
