CHARITABLE Kingswinford pupils have collected almost £4,000 for good causes after a week of fundraising events.

Year 8 students at Summerhill School recently dedicated a week of lunchtimes and after school periods, so far raising £3,800 to split between various causes.

Among the school’s fundraising events were food stalls selling popcorn, cakes, pancakes, sweets, waffles and hotdogs, sporting competitions, raffles, quizzes, hairstyling and even a whole room dedicated to students taking part in a Nerf War.

Helen Stevens, head of year 8, said: “Every year at Summerhill School, the year 8’s dedicate a week to raising as much money as they possibly can.

“This year’s chosen charities range from Birmingham’s Children’s Hospital, to Cancer Research UK and Compton Hospice.

“The students began planning for charity week at the start of February and have had over a month to plan what they are going to sell and the activities they are going to plan, to raise vital funds for the charities.

“The students’ dedication during charity week was fantastic. We had a wide range of food stalls, we even had a Krispy Kreme stall which made a roaring trade!

“Their enthusiasm grew throughout the week as they made more and more money and we topped off the week with a talent show and a charity football match which was organised by two students for Stand Up To Cancer.”

“The money is still rolling in and we are hoping to reach £4,000 by the time all the money is collected, which is a fantastic achievement.”
