A KINGSWINFORD teenager who lead police officers on a terrifying 34-mile high speed pursuit has been locked up for eight months.

Alexander Donaldson was chased from the Stourbridge area to towards Kidderminster and then onto Bromsgrove where he joined the M5 and hit 110mph.

The 19-year-old, from Pine Close, who went through five sets of traffic lights on red during the chase was finally arrested after police officers used a stinger device to burst tyres on his Seat hatchback.

At Wolverhampton Crown Court, Recorder Peter Ivens told Donaldson: "This is one of the worst pieces of dangerous driving I have ever seen.

"This was not a brief escapade - it lasted for 28 minutes through town, country and motorway. It was late at night and you went through no less than five red lights."

The officers initially thought the car was stolen but it belonged to Donaldson who had the appropriate tax and insurance, the court was told.

Andrew Baker, for Donaldson, said his client completely panicked before speeding away from the officers but he stressed there had been no accident and no-one had been injured.

Mr Barker added: "He has a habit of making irrational decisions. This is a man who was caught in a blind panic and he made the mistake of simply carrying on."

The Recorder further disqualified the teenager from driving for two years four months and told him he would have to take an extended test before he would be allowed to get back behind the wheel of a vehicle.
