THE Kingswinford Branch met in St Mary’s Church Hall when Andy Foster gave a talk and power point presentation ‘Buildings in Kingswinford’.
Andy is a historian who has done much work for the Pevsner guides.
He showed excellent pictures on screen of many buildings in Kingswinford and adjoining areas, Wordsley and Wallheath. Some of the buildings are still standing but others no longer in existence.
A large number of pictures were shown of St Mary’s Church. The font with its cover is quite beautiful as are the stained glass windows.
Other buildings in the area were of Holbeache House and its gunpowder links, now a nursing home. Broadfield House, now a glass museum, Summerhill Court, a splendid building, now a Travelodge.
The Old Court House is now a pub.
We also saw private houses ie, The Green, Kingswinford, next to the church and terraced homes with interesting features also council property.
The next meeting will beheld in St Mary’s Church Hall, Kingswinford on April 18 at 7.45pm when the speaker will be Graham Fisher MBE, his subject “Jewels on the cut’, an examination of the Stourbridge glass industry from the perspective of the Stourbridge canal.
