A DUDLEY councillor is backing a plan by an ex-football manager to set up a support centre for disabled people.

Councillor Qadar Zada, who represents the Netherton, Woodside and St Andrews ward, is throwing his weight behind the new initiative from former Stourbridge FC and Cradley Town boss Steve Daniels.

Mr Daniels, who lives in Netherton, aims to create a support group for people to help them access advice and information as well as providing workshops to enable them to develop new skills.

Cllr Zada said: "I think this is a worthwhile cause, which is more important than ever with the drastic changes imposed by this government to support for the less able in our borough. I want to see better access to information and practical support to help residents in the ward I represent and Dudley as whole."

Steve Daniels said “I want to help the disabled people of Dudley, I myself am disabled so I know what it’s like when you feel left out of things, I'm looking for people to support this concept and offer support or be involved in bringing this project to life. "
