WATERWAYS folk got a chance to show off upgrades to the Dudley canal at an open event in Blowers Green.

Dudley Canal Trust held the event at the Pump House, Peartree Lane, to show off improvements to the towpaths and the canal environment by charity Groundwork West Midlands.

The unveiling of the lottery-funded project on the Dudley No2 Canal also featured a first look at a recently refurbished floating classroom boat called Sagitta.

The canal improvements form part of the wider Making Tomorrow Different challenge set by Groundwork West Midlands, which aims to improve open spaces equivalent to the size of 20 Olympic Parks by the time of the next games in Rio in 2016.

Alan Hazeldine, Treasurer for Dudley Canal Trust said: “We are delighted to be working with Groundwork West Midlands, we want everyone to enjoy the improvements that we have made to the Dudley No2 Canal. We want to provide local people with the opportunity to see the canal and towpath as a pleasant, safe, healthy and clean environment in which to spend their leisure time."
