A FIRE at a Dudley nature reserve is believed to have been started deliberately.

Firefighters from Brierley Hill and Haden Cross tackled the blaze at Saltwells Nature Reserve on Saturday afternoon (April 8).

A 999 call was received at 1.33pm, after a passer-by saw the bush fire.

Crews managed to get the fire under control within an hour and were told by people at the scene that the fire had been started deliberately by youths.

West Midlands Fire Service has put together some top tips for staying safe outdoors.

They include, disposing of smoking materials properly, never having an open fire in the countryside and clearing away bottles, glasses and any broken glass to prevent them magnifying the sun’s rays and starting a fire.
