WAGNER Fuiza-Carrilho could not contain his excitement as he jumped for joy at making it through to the sixth week of the live TV show.

Defying all odds, the Pensnett singer was saved to sing again by his allegiance of fans after taking to the stage with another colourful and energetic medley of Elvis hits Viva Las Vegas and The Wonder of You.

As the country continues to go bonkers for the 54 year-old, even Simon Cowell admitted to secretly liking the flamboyant singer, commenting after his performance: "I've got to be honest with you, it's like when you go on a fun fair and you go on the big dipper, it's something you like but you shouldn't like and I've kind of got to that place with you right now. I'm actually concerned that I liked that performance."

However the result was again met with a chorus of loud boos from the Sunday night audience and judge Cheryl Cole could not hide her disappointment to Wagner’s survival as her reaction was caught on camera.

But following Tamworth’s Treyc Cohen axing, some viewers have begun criticising Wagner’s position in the show.

Although friend Vanessa Stokes, who was in the audience again on Saturday wearing a specially printed ‘embrace the madness’ t-shirt in support of her former karate instructor, hit back at the critics, saying: “People say it’s not fair he’s still in, but it is fair. It’s a competition and he got more votes than those that go out. He’s entertaining and everyone is talking about him.”

She added: “He was a bit upset on Saturday after his performance, as there were a couple of last minute changes he had to adjust to.

“He has to contend with these big stage performances each week, when most of the others just have to stand there and sing, so I think he does incredibly well and we are so proud of him. He sent me a text message on Sunday night which just contained a big smiley face. He is very happy.”

Camera crews from ITV2’s Xtra Factor are expected to be in the borough this week, filming Wagner’s every day haunts for a forthcoming piece on the show.
