SPORTY youngsters from Bromley-Pensnett Primary School have qualified for a tag rugby regional match after being coached to success by police officers from their neighbourhood policing team.

The officers have undergone training in tag rugby and have been coaching pupils in years 5 and 6.

The team recently played a match against pupils from a competing primary school in Stourbridge to qualify for a chance to play in the regional finals on Tuesday, June 7, at Tally Ho! West Midlands Police training centre.

Sergeant Cliff Tomkinson, who has co-ordinated the sessions, and will be on the sidelines cheering them on, said: "I think it is really important to work closely with local schools and to get young people in the area used to seeing their local officers. It will also give them the opportunity to ask us questions and for us to pass on advice.

“Tag rugby is a good social activity that young people can get involved with and the children that have formed a team at Bromley-Pensnett have worked really hard in their training sessions and this has paid off with the qualifying for the regionals”.
