A BANDSTAND in Quarry Bank Park has been restored to its former glory after an £18,000 revamp.

Volunteers from Friends of Quarry Bank Park secured a grant from the Ibstock Cory Environmental Trust to replace the bandstand’s cast iron panels and gates.

They celebrated their hard work on Tuesday July 23 when they met at the park to see the finished product.

Councillor David Sparks, chairman of the volunteer group, said: “The volunteers have worked extremely hard to secure the funding for this excellent restoration to take place.

“The bandstand at Quarry Bank Park has been recognised in the past as one of the finest examples of a bandstand in the region.”

Cllr Sparks, leader of Dudley Council, said the group was a perfect example of the authority’s Love Your Community campaign, which encourages people to take pride in where they live.

He continued: “We hope to see plenty more initiatives such as this in the near future across the borough.”

Volunteer Val Wellings added: “The park plays a very important part in the life of the local community and is very well used by people of all ages.

“We are delighted to see it restored.”
