MEMBERS of Quarry Bank Royal British Legion have been out in force selling poppies in the run-up to this weekend’s Remembrance Sunday.
Dedicated volunteers from the legion have been busy manning stalls at Asda at Brierley Hill, Sainsburys at Merry Hill and also in Merry Hill shopping centre since Saturday October 26 when Deputy Mayor of Dudley, Councillor Margaret Aston, officially launched the branch’s poppy appeal.
A tombola held on the day raised £153.20 and collectors will continue to coin in the cash through poppy sales until this Saturday (November 9).
Branch members collected in £22,750 for last year’s poppy appeal and they hope to equal or exceed that amount this time round.
The legion’s annual poppy concert will take place on Friday November 8 at 7.30pm at Quarry Bank Labour Club in the High Street. Singers Sammy Lou and Stuart James will be performing and the Mayor and Mayoress of Dudley - Councillor Alan Finch and his wife Heather - will be attending, along with other dignitaries.
Tickets cost £5 and can be obtained by calling 01384 560282.
