SEDGLEY came to a halt just for a moment as a 10ft long Chinese dragon took to the streets.

For the past few weeks year five pupils at Queen Victoria Primary School have been studying China as their topic and took to the streets of the town for a celebratory parade as they brought their learning to life.

Congregating after school, the youngsters carried lit handmade Chinese lanterns and made their way with their families from the Memorial Gardens near Co-op back to their Bilston Road school, led by the oriental lion dragon puppet.

Once back at school the children performed a snake dance in front of their parents and staff, which they had choreographed themselves, before tucking in a hot Chinese buffet.

The evening was then rounded off with a spectacular firework display.

Byron Williams, year five teacher, said: “We were overwhelmed by the strong support offered by the children and their families to make this event such a successful one. It is testament to the strong link we share with our parents and carers here at our school.”
